I have learned a ton of lessons since 2013. Here’s everything I have learned to launch a successful product or a major feature in SaaS.

  1. Launch early is outdated.
  2. Quality is non-negotiable. Don’t ship until the product was bug-free.
  3. Answer: Do you miss the feature when you don’t use it for a week?
  4. Only get early adopters early.
  5. Don’t try to pursue users who left since they did not like the product.
  6. Tract only one vanity metric → For example: for Knowledge Base, number of new articles was a metric.
  7. Create flywheels → For example: after creating a new board, make it easy to share it with people.

Deciding Flywheels

For featureOS

  1. Invite customers → Make it easy. More feedback, more usage. More feedback = more value for money.
  2. CTA for signed out users → In the feedback portal, hover over Powered by featureOS to show a popup to create new org.
  3. Share feedback boards → Make it super easy. Connects to Flywheel #1 here.
  4. Referrals → Provide a referral button so that exiting PMs can share featureOS with their customers.
